Sneaker Con May 2010 – Event Recap

After a great experience in January, the team here at SneakerListing.com and the Sneakers Application on Facebook was definitely not going to miss the latest edition of Sneaker Con in New York City. Housed in a 10,000+ square feet gymnasium in downtown Manhattan, the amount of premium kicks on display was nothing less than incredible. As usual, the collection of vendors that came out carried some of the sickest heat that you will ever find in a single venue, and we certainly didn’t hold anything back either. Biggups to Mike and the team at CitySole, Yu-Ming Wu, John and Aaron at Sneakernews and Freshnessmag, Carlos at SneakGeekz.com, Alan from Sneaker Con, Simon and Franz from GentlemenKnow.com and Danny at Kixclusive. It was awesome catching up and chilling with you and your crews.

With the new year upon us and fresh off the holiday sneaker frenzy, the momentum is strong for sneakerheads to continue their binge at the 2010 SneakerCon. This buy/sell/trade convention will showcase some of the most exclusive kicks you can find from over 1500+ expected patrons and a long list of vendors, including yours truly. SneakerListing.com and the Sneakers Application on Facebook will have a table at this event to answer any questions you may have regarding our web services as well as also making available for sale a small collection of some kicks of our own.

Come on out to support SneakerCon and the other great vendors this Saturday, January 9th.

SneakerListing is Looking for Help!

SneakerListing.com is looking for help! Ever since day one we have said that this site belongs to the whole of the sneaker community. In order for that to be true, we would like to put the powers of moderation into our users hands. Having said that, we would still need to maintain the integrity of the site by entrusting these responsibilities to knowledgeable individuals that can represent the culture.

Calling all experienced forum moderators – If you have experience in moderating sneaker forums, are knowledgable in all things sneakers, are web savvy, and are interested in participating in our site, please do the following. Send a brief bio of yourself (one or two paragraphs), Include your age and where you currently live. Please describe and also include links or examples of prior experience in the field and also links to your social networking profiles. (Facebook, Twitter, SP or KicksOnFire Profile, etc)

This is not a paid position as the site is currently just starting out and not profitable. However, if the opportunity for revenue presents itself in the future, this will turn into a paid position. We are looking for 2 people.

R.I.P. DJ AM – a Friend and Fellow Sneakerhead

From his highly publicized obsession with sneakers to his renowned work as a talented DJ, DJ AM (aka Adam Goldstein) was every bit of a cultural icon to the sneakerhead community as he was to the music industry. We here at SneakerListing are saddened by the news and our hearts go out to his friends and family. Although his recent life was plagued by unfortunate events and bouts with substance abuse, we encourage everyone to celebrate his life, one that is filled with dedication to music and a passion for sneakers.

Listing Guidelines (UPDATED 9/21/2009)

My original intention was to simplify the listing process for selling sneakers on the web and place as little restrictions on sellers as possible. However, without at least some structure and guidelines, we can not ensure an environment that instills confidence in the shoppers.

Listing Guidelines

All fields are required. You must fill in all fields when listing
The photo upload requirements must be followed. All five photos must be uploaded and they must be photos of the specified type. They are spelled out in RED next to each upload form.
DO NOT post images that are professionally taken product photos that you do not own. You must post photos according to the types stated on the listing form.
Photos must be clear, not fuzzy or distorted.
Photos must be big enough to see the condition of the shoe clearly
Photos of the UPC and the size label must be large enough to be read. If you can’t read the text on the label, then it’s too small.
DO NOT provide descriptions that are generic ad copies or paragraphs taken from other websites’ sneaker history pages. For example, do not write: “Released in 1985, the Air Jordan 1 was a breakthrough in basketball shoe design…”. Write something specific to the pair that you’re selling. For example: “I’m selling my Air Jordans I’s in Black/Red, I bought it on launch date and is deadstock…”
Entire Lots are not allowed. You must list each pair separately
DO NOT Include links to auction sites. Your listing will be removed
Shop owners are no longer allowed to post their stock in bulk on our listings. If you are a shop owner and are interested in advertising or other partnership opportunities, we would be happy to work with you. Otherwise, each pair must be listed as stated above.

All listings submitted will go through moderation before they are approved. If the above guidelines are not adhere to, the system will e-mail you to fix your listings. We reserve the right to immediately remove any non-compliant listings.

This post will continue to be updated as new guidelines emerge as necessary. All of the above are subject to change.

My experience with OSD, and a Message to Our Users

Last night I had the privilege of chatting with the OSD crew regarding SneakerListing.com. As this was my first ever (public) interview, there was certainly a level of nervousness. And it was evident in my “ums” and “ya knows”. However, as the conversation went on, what I realized is that by going on to the show I was given the opportunity to feel the pulse of the community.

Here was my chance not to show off, or just take pride in what we’ve made but really listen to what sneakerheads wanted. I began telling myself that this is what Ray and I needed, the true feedback of the users. They bring up some excellent points and I will add all of those things to my todo list in the coming days and weeks. To bring something that’s valuable to the sneaker culture is not only to create something that everyone thinks is cool or simply looks pretty, but it must address the needs of our users. Otherwise, we would have failed.

Our message from day one is that this project is an evolving one, meaning it will shape and form with the needs and feedback of the users, and only then will it succeed. SneakerListing.com is not simply a website that we own, but it is an entity that belongs to the entire sneaker culture. I encourage everyone to continue giving us your suggestions so that we can live up to to your expectations in being the centralized marketplace for sneakers.

Beta Mode

SneakerListing is currently in beta testing mode. Here’s what that means: the site works, but not 100%. In the words of Facebook, there are still some kinks that we are working through. The system is not quite perfect yet, but hopefully will be in due time. We would like to ask for your help in getting us out of beta! As you begin using the site, please do not hesitate to raise your concerns or questions. If you see something wrong, please let us know. As I’ve stated since day one, the site will evolve with our user’s feedback.

There are two ways in which you can submit feedback:

1. Click on the Feedback tab at the right edge of the browser window.
2. E-mail us at feedback@sneakerlisting.com, in the subject of the e-mail, type “Beta Feedback”.

(Please refrain from submitting site feedback on the comments sections of the listings.)

Welcome to SneakerListing! It’s been more than six months since we began this journey to create SneakerListing and finally we’re ready for the next chapter. Today marks the launch of Sneakerlisting.com, a website that we hope will provide a safe and credible place for sneakerheads to buy and sell kicks. We encourage everyone to click around, get a feel for the system, and start posting your own listings.

One of the biggest battles that we’re trying to win is the one against fakes, the ever growing concern among true collectors. This site can not guarantee authenticity, but it can get very close with your help. The user rating system we put in place provides a way for buyers and sellers to review each other. After each transaction you have the opportunity to rate the other party. And based upon these ratings, each one of you will build a reputation on this site. These are represented in the form of star ratings and all of your prior reviews will be available for everyone to see. We hope that you will take these ratings and reviews very seriously as it can only hurt your future sales prospects if you build a negative reputation. And on the flip, side, with a consistent positive track record, it can only help you in selling and buying your kicks.

Aside from that aspect, this site is a classifieds site specifically for sneakers, not everything under the sun. From our internal search engine you can search by size, condition, style number or brand. The layout of every listing is designed to mimic an online shop, giving you a comprehensive view of each item. You can also comment on each pair and respond to each listing in an open-forum format.

As you can see, this is truly a social project that can go as far as its users can take it. I’d like to ask everyone to buy and sell in good faith, and always know that your actions will not go unnoticed, good or bad.

Together with all of you, I hope we can accomplish our goal in creating the most credible (and fun) sneaker marketplace in the word.
